As my first festival of the summer, I am so excited to see all the acts below! Hopefully, there will be no cutthroat scheduling conflicts. These recommendations are all opinion based, but I’ve tried to create a list to unite everyone’s interests.
I have recently started listening to Halsey, and her voice is dark and angelic. More of an alternative act, she has been compared to CHVRCHES and Lorde. She toured with The Kooks, and you can see her name appearing on many other lineups this year. She is definitely an act to look out for.
9. Die Antwoord
Die Antwoord is the creepiest, weirdest duo I have ever listened to which is why I HAVE to see them. They are a couple from South Africa and their music doesn’t fall under one category, and I hardly know how to define it.. Rap? Techno? I don’t know. I missed them at Hard Summer last year where they brought out Jack Black. Yes, School of Rock Jack Black. They are out of the ordinary and extreme performers. They seem like the kind of people that don’t give a sh*t about what others think of them, and I respect that.
8. Cold War Kids
I love this band! They’re an indie rock band from California. If you haven’t heard of them, start listening now so you will be able to sing along. A couple of their most popular songs are “First” and “Hang Me Up to Dry.”
7. Wiz Khalifa
I have witnessed Wiz arrive at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards. When those car doors opened, anyone within a ten foot radius got contact high. I’ve also witnessed him light up backstage. Basically, I expect nothing less from his time at Pemberton. Go see him, it will be a great.
6. Purity Ring
Purity Ring is a Canadian electronic duo. Their surreal sound will make you feel like you are in a dream. This is a great act to see if you are trying to chill out and relax but still be able to dance. Basically, the opposite of what you will be doing at Flosstradamus.
5. J. Cole
J. Cole is an American rapper with a great attitude. I’m not kidding, have you seen the things he has done? He created an organization called The Dreamville Foundation where he creates more opportunities for urban youth and bought his old family home with the intentions to make it a shelter for single mothers to live in with their kids. Not only is he amazing, but so is his music.
4. Snoop Dogg
I’m still confused about his brief change to Snoop Lion in 2013, but that’s beside the fact. He continues to bust out hits like “Young, Wild, & Free,” “Gin And Juice,” and “Beautiful” with a lot of contributions from his friends. Similar to Ice Cube, he’s just a legend so I have to see him and so do you. Don’t worry, everybody will be dropping it like it’s hot.
3. DJ Snake
Turn down for what? Not DJ Snake. See what I did there… *cue laughter* DJ Snake is an immensely popular DJ who came into the scene with his singles “Bird Machine” and “Turn Down for What.” (Now do you see what I did there?) His most recent song that I will never get sick of, even though it is extremely overplayed, is “The Middle.” If you want to have a great time, go see him.
2. The Chainsmokers
With “Don’t Let Me Down,” “Roses,” and “Until You Were Gone,” these guys are no strangers to making music that will be a hit or commanding large crowds with their catchy lyrics and powerful drops. I haven’t seen them myself, but I have friends testify to them being one of the greatest performances they have seen. Also, I watched their whole hour long Ultra 2016 set on my laptop, and I have to see them!!
1. The Killers
IF YOU EVER GET THE CHANCE TO SEE THE KILLERS, TAKE IT! This will be my second time seeing The Killers live. If you couldn’t tell by my about page, I am a tremendously huge fan. I’m talking all time favorite band ever, sorry I’m bias on this one. Honestly, I am more excited for my friends that haven’t seen them yet to see them. Like I said, BEST PERFORMANCE EVER.
Other acts to watch: YG, BØRNS, Rae Sremmurd, Coleman Hell, Ra Ra Riot, Keys N Krates, Kaleo, Hippie Sabotage, Miami Horror, Ice Cube, Kaskade, Flosstradamus, Miguel, Arkells, FKA Twigs.
