Hard Summer 2016: Who to Watch

The Hard Summer line up is amazing, so it is hard to narrow it down to a top ten. Personally, these are the acts I would not miss. These are the ones I would be pretty upset if I were to miss them. These are the ones you must see, no pressure though. Check them out and tell me how you feel.

10. Claude Vonstroke

He’s fun and chill. It isn’t crazy upbeat “heart pumping out of your chest” beats, more of a steady groove to dance to. His music is eccentric and unconventional.

9. Alunageorge

At Lightning in a Bottle, I was laying on a hill with all of my friends listening to Alunageorge, but her music is so hypnotic that we all were forced to stand up and dance. You may have heard her voice with the help of DJ Snake on “You Know You Like It” or her song with Disclosure called “White Noise” which is one of my fav songs. Go listen to more of her music, and you will understand why she is one to watch!

8. Mija

OMFG. Mija literally changed my life at OMFG NYE 2016 in San Diego. Imagine really dirty beats commanding the entire crowd and then looking at the DJ booth and seeing this little blue-haired girl controlling everyone. It was awesome. She is definitely one to see if you want to be dancing as low to the ground as possible. She gives female EDM artists a great name. Her visuals are happy and colorful while her beats are dirty and grimy. The perfect mix to creating an amazing performance. Much of her music is on Soundcloud, rather than Spotify.

7. Louis the Child

I have not seen them myself, but they are a favorite according to everybody that has seen them. They’re in the small font section of the lineup currently; however, I guarantee they will become headliner status by next year. Similar artists consist of Jai Wolf and Big Wild. Their huge hit “It’s Strange” currently has over 13 million plays on Spotify and is remixed a ton of different times. They’ve remixed “Genghis Khan” by Miike Snow which is another mega hit in their book.

6. Malaa

You know when you have a song stuck in your head but you only know the beat and none of the lyrics so you can’t even search it? Yeah, the worst. Well, this happened to me with a Malaa song. It was literally stuck in my head for three days, and I couldn’t rest until I found it. Eventually, one of my friends figured it out through my repetitive, awkward singing of the beat and the one word I knew. God bless. Btw, that song is called “Notorious” and it is on Soundcloud. Their other songs are great as well. If you like Tchami and Jauz, you will LOVE Malaa.

5. Major Lazer

They are headlining day two, so you know everyone will be there. Major Lazer has been around forever and they have a million hit songs. I’m going to throw it way back to old Major Lazer days when I blasted “Pon De Floor” on repeat. They were around way before I knew the meaning of EDM. If you didn’t know already, the group was a project of Diplo back in 2008.

4. Jai Wolf

Jai Wolf was another I saw at OMFG and ohhhhmaaagawwd I love him so much. He is similar to Odesza and Flume in regards to style, so Flosstradamus and Kill the Noise are the complete opposite. If you are looking for an act to fall in love to, go see Jai Wolf. One of his popular songs “Indian Summer” is on Spotify, but more of his music can be found on Soundcloud.

3. Zeds Dead

I didn’t stop moving when I saw Zeds Dead last year at Hard Summer. We were all sweating bullets since it was 1800 degrees in LA during that time, but it was worth it. Fun fact: their name has nothing to do with the other DJ, Zedd. In fact, they changed their name from Fresh Beetz to Zeds Dead after a line from the movie Pulp Fiction. Some of their more popular songs include “You Know,” “Collapse,” and “Lost You.”

1. Tchami

If there is one thing you do at this festival, GO SEE TCHAMI. I clean my house to Tchami. I drive my car to Tchami. I hang out with friends and listen to Tchami. Whatever the scheduling conflicts are, choose Tchami. You’re welcome.

  • Idk who you are, or do I totally agree with your entire list… But Tchami is #1 so you’re automatically cool and this list is solid.
